In the past, I divided massages into styles like Deep Tissue and Swedish.  But oftentimes, people are not fully aware of what those terms mean, or they are unaware of how each applies to their needs.  So I changed the basic menu to reflect choices based on need and the intention of the individual.  Both Spa Massage and Therapeutic Massage have therapeutic effects.  The difference is between the intensity and tools  chosen to achieve those effects given the depth or severity of the need (and/or the goal of the client).

Both Spa and Therapeutic Massages...
  • include some aspects of Swedish and Deep Tissue style work but in varying degrees (massage modalities may include some or all of the following: swedish, acupressure, trigger point therapy, myo-fascial release, neuromuscular therapy, passive and assisted stretching, and more)
  • help support and maintain a healthy, happy body and mind
  • help to promote a balanced lifestyle where you feel rested, energized, active, peaceful, and just plain great!
  • have a proven beneficial effect on your health and can be part of a preventative healthy lifestyle, like exercising and eating well
  • improve circulation, assist the lymphatic system, and enhance the immune system
  • promote the production of "happy" hormones and biochemicals while reducing the "yucky" ones
  • enhance your quality of sleep (the body's natural healing and recovery time)

How to choose?  Please refer below to some helpful tips on how to choose either Spa or Therapeutic Massage.


SPA MASSAGE
Sure it feels like a luxury, but regular massage has a proven beneficial effect on your health and can be part of a preventative healthy lifestyle, like exercising
and eating well. 
THERAPEUTIC MASSAGE
A more individually tailored experience, more intense therapy will be given in problem areas as part of a process to relieve and correct structural imbalances as applies to soft tissue manipulation.  In addition, assisted stretching may be appropriate.  
For people who...
  • don't have acute deep or strong pain, an active chronic pain condition, an injury, or physical trauma
  • may have minor/generalized aches and pains, but are looking to support, maintain and enhance a healthy, relaxed body
  • want to relieve stress, ease overall muscle tension, promote relaxation 
  • want to ease symptoms of anxiety and/or depression
